Grand Mere Master Planned Golf Course Community

Project Description

Grand Mere is an upscale, mixed-use, golf course community located in northwest Manhattan, Kansas. The entire area encompasses over 1,000 acres in the beautiful Flint Hills. The 300-acre Colbert Hills Golf Course is at the center of the development. Over 150 additional acres have been set aside for parks and open space. Grand Mere features a mix of residential, neighborhood retail, commercial and office, and elder care uses. A bicycle and pedestrian trail system links various pods of development and connects to the Manhattan Linear Park system. Schwab Eaton assisted in the project by providing ground control surveys for aerial mapping, boundary surveying, and infrastructure planning and design. Assistance in zoning and platting were also provided. Infrastructure elements consisted of streets, drainage, water, and sanitary sewer facilities. Additions to the City of Manhattan’s water system included a new pump station, water tower, and distribution mains. These facilities were needed to serve the higher elevations and to provide an irrigation source for Colbert Hills. Future sanitary sewers were planned and the locations where lines were to cross the golf course were installed to eliminate future disruption. Grand Mere Parkway (a 1.25 mile arterial with bike lanes) was also designed to provide access to the course and adjacent parcels. Schwab Eaton continues to work with the Grand Mere Development Company, providing detailed planning and site design services for each phase of land development.
