This project consisted of new site development for this women’s health facility in Wichita, Kansas. The free-standing medical office building was designed for patient comfort and relaxation. The client requested a landscape theme that followed the Tuscan architectural style of the building. Schwab-Eaton’s landscape architects selected a wide variety of plant materials that invoke a relaxed, Mediterranean style. The plants also provide year-round interest and season color. Our desire, especially in the entry and employee courtyards, was to create a landscape that gave the same comfortable and relaxed atmosphere as the interior of the building, while creating a feeling of wholesomeness, health, and vitality. A private courtyard for the physicians on the north side of the building was lushly landscaped with shade-tolerant plant materials. Grassed earth berms were planted with trees and shrubs around the perimeter of the site to screen the parking lot. Large deciduous trees were planted in the parking lot islands for shade, and to create a softening effect for the surrounding pavement surface.
