ESB Financial

Project Description

This project in Manhattan, Kansas, involved new construction and site development for the Manhattan Branch of ESB Financial. Schwab Eaton worked closely with the client to design landscape and irrigation improvements for the bank. The client envisioned a particular landscape style that relied heavily on ornamental grasses and perennials.

Schwab Eaton’s landscape architects selected plants that would be visually pleasing throughout the year, but that also showed vibrant flower and foliage color, and a variety of textures. Much of the landscaping is viewed at close range by bank customers entering the building, so special consideration was given to more detailed plant characteristics. Schwab Eaton communicated these design ideas to the client using photographs, descriptions, and plan and perspective renderings.

The entire landscape was designed with an automated water-efficient irrigation system. Drip irrigation was used in the landscape beds and water efficient spray nozzles in turf areas. A rain sensor overrides the watering programs during rainy periods. The finished product is an attractive landscape that quickly catches the eye from nearby roadways, but can also be enjoyed up close.
